This piece features an early state of the chrysalis of a Monarch butterfly, Danaus plexippus. Monarchs are not currently listed as endangered, but their populations are rapidly declining due to habitat loss and changes in weather. If you live in North America, you can help by planting milkweed at your home or petitioning your local government to allow milkweed to grow in public spaces. Milkweed is often viewed as a weed and cut down, but it is the only plant on which Monarchs will lay their eggs. To help support butterfly and other invertebrate populations worldwide, 10% of your purchase will be donated to the Xerces Society.
